Illuminating the Collections (3rd)

The film, “Illuminating the Collections”, is derived from an ongoing, long-term filming project conducted by the Huesio Geological Museum, depicting how the villager of Huesio village named Fish, who has struggled with insomnia for years, utilizes various light sources to illuminate all types of museum collections.

Collection No. D-ND0001 is a series of "geological movements" under the name of "Untitled" that the Mount NO began in 2024 at the estuary of the north bank of Zhuoshui River. Through shifting, engraving, stacking, and rubbing, the members of the Mount NO, together with the tides, wind and rain, living organisms, and chemical substances emitted from factories are shaping this vast landscape of the beach.

Collection No. L-ANT0010 is a painting titled “Untitled” by the late Japanese painter Hiroshi Kurita, created in the Showa period, only drawn with pencils. In the 4×6 inch yellowing paper, there are interwoven lines of movement that are as light, sudden, and violent as natural climates, on a grand scale.

The "Illumination of Collections (3rd)" at the Huesio Geological Museum focuses on these two collections, illuminating the mud collected by the Mount NO members from the estuary of the Zhuoshui River with the light of the insomniac, interpreting life labor that is slow, silent, and time-consuming, with “none” as the direction of progress.

Note 1: Mount NO originated from the “No” online forum established in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 2002. Since 2006, many members have also been part of various university mountaineering clubs in Taiwan. They have combined this with the concept of “geological movements,” organizing exhibitions across Taiwan’s mountains and valleys.

Note 2: Hiroshi Kurita(1952-2022), born in the city of Shirone(now south part of Niigata City), Japan . While working as a public official at the Shirone City Hall, he began to paint with a pencil, and gradually published works with the themes of “Untitled”, “Seisei”(generation), “Ki”(qi), and “Mitsu”(density).
